Who we are?

Small and Home Business owners meeting to build relationships from other SBO’s.

What is CT?

Relatively casual meeting group, where you can network, talk about business ideas and strategies, and learn from one another.

Where?

Tuggerah’s Zenith Centre.

When?

At 10.30 am on the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of the month. Arrival 10.25 am for 10.30 am start. (Runs for about 1 hour)

Update on:

The raffle is going around. Last meeting we raised $34. This will go together with today’s collection to the Iris Foundation. Tickets will be $2 each, or three for $5. If you would like to donate a prize to the group for the raffle, please let me know. Other wise I will purchase from the collection of funds and will be worth up to the value of $10 each fortnight. All monies will be donated each month to the charity of choice.

Today’s presentation is from Warwick Ryan from Central Coast Business Lawyers:

Fair Work Act – Modern Awards, Contracts, Policies, and all that stuff

*2010 – what defines the employment relationship
-Legislation – the fair work act.
-Modern awards
-Contracts - written, verbal, implied by conduct (or a combination)
*What types of Relationships?
-Contractors vs. employees
-Permanent employees – full and part time
-Casual employees
*National Employment Standards
-Maximum hours - 38 hours plus reasonable overtime
-Flexible working arrangements
-Parental leave – 12 months unpaid
-Annual leave
-Compassionate leave – carers/personal
-Community service leave - unpaid
-Long service leave
-Public holidays
-Notice of termination and redundancy pay
-The Fair Work Information Statement
*Award Modernisation
-Modern awards will replace state and federal awards – eventually
Will apply to industries or classes of employees
-There was over 4000 awards, now down to 120 awards. More being reviewed to be added. Check your awards for your employees.
*Agreement Making
-Common law on individual agreements
-Subject to the 10 National Employment standards
-Individual Flexibility Agreements
-Enterprise agreements will be vetted upfront by FWA and are subject to the BOOT.
*Unfair Dismissal Laws
-Applies to all employees, if
+Engaged > 12 months by a small employer
+Engaged > 6 months by a non small employer
-Policies and Procedures
+Make sure you have your policies and procedures in place,
+By having your procedures and policies in place, this may assist with staffing issues, no performance and productivity of staff.
*What Now:
-Integration of people management systems with legal obligations
*How:
-Start with the end in mind.
-What are the key outcomes you require in the relationship
-Distil the goals and obligations and document
-Communicate them to your people.
